Photodynamic Therapy

What is Photodynamic Therapy?

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses a specialized ultraviolet blue light treatment in combination with Levulan (5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA), a topical photosensitizing agent, and microdermabrasion. Approved by the FDA to treat actinic keratosis, an early potential sign of skin cancer, photodynamic therapy has also proven to be successful in treating an array of problematic skin conditions. As opposed to treatments using liquid nitrogen, cautery and surgery which only “spot treat” problem areas, photodynamic therapy treats the entire facial area, creating uniform color, texture and tone to the skin.

What Skin Problems can be Treated with Photodynamic Therapy?

  • Sun Damage
  • Pre-Cancerous Actinic Keratosis
  • Blotchy or Mottled Pigmentations
  • Large Pores with a Reduction in Oil Secretion
  • Acne Vulgaris with a Marked Improvement to Active Acne
  • Acne Rosacea
