What is Thermage®?

Thermage® is a highly advanced, non-surgical procedure that uses thermal energy to tighten and contour facial and body skin to effectively reduce the signs of aging.

With little to no recovery time, you are back to your regular activities by the day following your procedure. With no incisions marking your skin or recovery time interfering with your busy schedule, Thermage® has earned recognition as a successful non-surgical alternative to surgical lifts and tucks.

How does the Thermage® Procedure Work?

The top layers of the skin are protected with a cooling spray while a highly sophisticated treatment tip is placed in contact with the skin. With each placement, the treatment tip emits radiofrequency (thermal) energy, heating the collagen in the lower layers of the skin. This heating action causes the deep layers of the skin to tighten. New collagen grows to further tighten the skin and produce a more youthful appearance. Patients will see results appear immediately and gradually over the next 2-6 months.

What is Collagen?

Collagen is the main protein of connective tissue that is responsible for skin elasticity. Collagen is depleted overtime from environmental factors such as sun exposure, and it is the depletion of the skin's collagen which leads to the wrinkles and sagging that accompany aging.

How Long Will the Effects of Thermage® Last?

Studies have shown that the physiological effect of Thermage® on thermal collagen is permanent, however cosmetic effects last approximately 3-5 years. Although a single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients, it should be noted that many factors play a part in the rate at which collagen is depleted, causing skin to age.

Every measure is taken to ensure your comfort during the Thermage® procedure. There may be some discomfort due to the heating effect of the radiofrequency; however this is lessened by the use of light sedatives administered prior to the procedure. Because you have been sedated it is recommended that you do not drive yourself home following treatment.
