What is Axillary Hyperhidrosis?
Axillary Hyperhidrosis
is the medical term for excessive sweating localized
to the underarm area. While sweating is a normal
response in healthy skin to regulate body
temperature, people with axillary hyperhidrosis
produce more underarm sweat than the body needs to
cool itself. It is a condition that affects the
well-being of millions of people and in many cases
can be very successfully treated with BOTOX®.
How can BOTOX® help?
BOTOX®
is FDA-approved and indicated for severe underarm
sweating that is not adequately managed with topical
agents. BOTOX®
treatment helps control axillary hyperhidrosis by
temporarily blocking the chemical signals from
nerves that activate the sweat glands. When the
sweat glands can't respond to chemical signals,
severe sweating stops.
How is BOTOX ® treatment performed?
The underarm is numbed
with a topical agent and the area for treatment is
marked out. BOTOX®
is then administered through tiny injections at the
effected area. Effects of treatment are noticeable
within 4 weeks and can last from 6 months to 1 year.
Treatment can be repeated as required.
